Hearing Aid Technology
There is No “One Size Fits All” – Instead, Our Experts Find The Right Technology to Match the Right Treatment Plan for You
However, the good news is that hearing technology has rapidly progressed over recent years, with the large, clunky devices that you may remember your grandparents wearing being a thing of the past.
Today’s technology is small and discreet, and many of our patients even tell us that their friends and loved ones have never even noticed them.
Micro-Digital and Material Technology Innovations
The digital revolution has changed how hearing aids look, feel, and function. Because higher-level performance requires a lot less space, modern hearing aids are lighter and smaller than what they were even a decade ago. Their performance is more natural sounding and less artificial than older style units as well.
Material technology has improved the wearing comfort of hearing aids, contributing to their lighter weight and allowing wearers to choose colors or make them virtually invisible through skin-tone matching.
Connectivity, Streaming, and Device Integration
Another advantage of the use of digital technology in hearing aids is their capacity to expand how you use your hearing instrument.
Connectivity using Bluetooth is among the most important advantages, allowing you to connect your hearing aid to your smartphone, landline phone, television, and other digital devices. With connectivity comes the capacity to stream a conversation on your phone, enjoy television programs with greater clarity, or experience improved sound quality from church or the theater delivered directly to your hearing aids.
Integration with your smartphone allows you to enhance the performance of your hearing aids discretely or allow your hearing aid provider to provide technical support from a remote location.
Our Experts Help You To Choose the Right Hearing Aid
There is more involved in hearing aid selection than amplification and style. Gold Country Hearing guides you through the process of selecting the hearing instrument best suited to restore your specific type and severity of hearing loss as well as taking into account your manual dexterity, cosmetic concerns, and discretion as well as occupational, lifestyle, and personal preferences.
We have a variety of styles available from a wide range of brand name manufacturers such as Widex, Oticon, Phonak, Unitron, Starkey, Signia, ReSound, and Lyric. However, what sets us apart from hearing aid dispensers is the use of Real Ear Measurement fitting to improve performance, our commitment to educating you on the usage, cleaning, and maintenance of your instruments, and our dedication to providing ongoing care as long as we are your hearing care partner.
The Different Styles of Hearing Aids
Invisible-In-Canal (IIC) – Tiny & Often Invisible
IIC style instruments fit snugly within the second bend of the ear canal, representing the first 100% invisible, digital, and fully programmable hearing aids. Like CIC devices, they are too small for manual controls, making them simple to use and an ideal solution for discrete wearers.
Completely-In-The-Canal (CIC) – Mostly Invisible
A clear plastic post allows for the insertion of CIC devices deeper into the ear canal than their ITC counterparts. Much less visible than other styles of hearing aids, they are so small that they do not include manual controls, making them simpler to use but requiring more dexterity for insertion.
Fitting further into the ear, ITC devices are molded for deeper insertion without filling up as much of the space in the outer portion of the ear. Although more discrete, their use requires fine dexterity in order to adjust volume control wheels and other controls, which are integrated into a very small area.
Many wearers who wear glasses or receive supplemental oxygen through a cannula prefer ITE instruments, which eliminate the casing placed behind the ear. A custom-formed plastic shell housing the instrument’s technology fits into the outer opening of your ear canal and houses all of its technology. You can get ITE devices in various sizes to fit the larger outer ear or farther into the opening.
Barely visible when worn, the RIC style is an instrument in which the receiver, or speaker, is inside the ear canal. Thin electrical wires are used instead of a plastic acoustical tube, reducing distortion. RIC hearing aids provide a comfortable, open fit and are perfect for mild to moderate hearing loss.
BTE hearing aids are the largest and most powerful instruments available, because they have more circuit options capable of producing more power and performance than other custom fit units. The technology for BTEs is contained in a casing that sits on the back of your ear and connects to the ear canal using nearly invisible plastic tubing. This tubing carries amplified sound to an earmold made by making an ear impression of your ear to create a component that perfectly replicates your ear’s size and shape.

Local Hearing Loss Journeys
I wish I had not waited so many years.
The impact hearing aids have had on my life is surprisingly dramatic! I had NO idea I wasn’t hearing birds and crickets, gravel under my feet, my cat purring, leaves rustling, wind in the trees. My husband says I don’t ‘tune out’ anymore in conversations.
It’s the best thing you’ll do for your health and others’ consideration.
Gold Country Hearing knew what they were doing and had the latest equipment, which they used to its fullest. Hearing aids have allowed me to continue almost normally, unlike my brothers who refused to learn to live better with hearing aids.
My hearing loss slowly occurred over time.
I kept asking people to repeat themselves, which became very embarrassing. I was very impressed with Gold Country Hearing’s efficiency and professionalism. They have markedly improved my ability to hear clearly at normal tone levels. If you are concerned about your hearing, do not be worried about your evaluation and Gold Country Hearing’s recommendations.
My first impressions of them were that they are kind, pleasant, and interested in helping me
I am able to hear and understand much better. Plus my wife does not get to hear me ask WHAT? as much. If you are considering an appointment, don’t wait any longer. Go to Gold Country and you will be happy that you did.”
